She's Got Sass (altered book)Have you heard of the Red Hat Society?  It’s a national organization that was originally inspired by a poem called “Warning” written by Jenny Joseph.  The mission of the “Red Hats” is essentially to connect and play!  Though they take the Play element seriously, there is no question that the Connection is what this organization is truly all about.

To me, the Red Hats are all about finding your tribe.

Why is a TRIBE so important?  It’s a place where you feel so comfortable, you can let it all go.  You can talk about what’s truly in your heart, knowing that even if your friends disagree, they will hear you and still love you.  It’s a group of people who are so accepting of you that you can take risks, do something crazy and unexpected, and they will still respect you.  You don’t feel a need to conform to the group–you can be exactly who you are within this group.

You can show your sass, because they are all still there for you!

Webster defines a tribe as being “a social group comprising numerous families, clans, or generations together.”  The main emphasis is on the family link.  But author Richard Bach says, “Rarely do members of the same family grow up under the same roof.” Oh, so true!

There are a lot of lucky people whose biological family are also their tribe.  And there are a lot of lucky people who have found their “family” in other places.  How about you?

If you don’t feel that you have a haven of people that you can retreat to, maybe it’s time to start seeking them out.  Think about what you love to be involved with, and then find a club or organization that is focused on that activity.  If you can’t find a club, then start one.  Get on line and organize a “Meet Up” for anyone who shares your common interest.  You might be amazed to find out how many like-minded people are out there.

In the spirit of the bumper sticker, “Stop Bitching and Start a Revolution,” I say, stop wishing and start your own tribe!

What do you think?
