Be the change you want to see in the world.

–Mahatma Ghandi

If Ghandi’s advice seems too lofty (you know, changing the whole world), narrow your focus a little. Just be the change you want to see in your own life.

effective change management The idea of “change management” exploded in the business world in the 90s. Remember that? One of the big quotes of the time was “The only thing that you can count on is change.” Essentially, nothing will ever stay the same. There is some sort of change that’s going to happen, whether you invite it or not.

So my question to you is, why not be the champion of the change that is on its way into your life? Why not take charge of it, choose it and make it happen. Isn’t that much better than allowing it to happen to you, whether or not it’s the type of change that you wanted?

Wouldn’t you rather be in CHARGE of your CHANGE? (Notice—only one letter is different in the two words!)

Otherwise you are leaving your future to CHANCE? (Again—only one letter is different.)

You have two futures:  the one that you choose, or the one that just happens (and you try to find the best way to cope with it). Which one sounds better?

create your future

Knowing that something in your life is going to change in the upcoming year, what would you like it to be? Perhaps something very small: a habit, a mindset. Perhaps something more significant: you job, a toxic friendship, a rewarding volunteer activity, your location. What is it you would like to change?

Place your focus there. Think about it. Visualize it. Pray on it. Meditate on it. Talk about it. Plan for it. Welcome it into your life. Let it begin to unfold and embrace it as it does.

What change will you invite into your life?
