Halloween—The Holiday of Creativity for me…the Holiday of Overdoing it With Candy for my kids!

When your kid brings home a pile of candy like this, what do you do?

A big pile of Halloween Candy

Well, I’m guessing the one thing you WOULDN’T do is tell them to just go for it—eat as much as they can for as long as they can until it’s gone.

No, in reality we know that kind of gluttony only leads to trouble. So we have them pick out their favorites, divide it up, put some away for later, limit how many pieces they can have each day, and get rid of the excess.

The bottom line is that we set a limit, because we know that limits are good for us.

A few more holidays are just around the corner, and I’m going to challenge you to set limits for them too. Not regarding eating—that’s your own personal battle to fight. I am encouraging limits on your time.

If you are like me, it’s easy to treat holiday decorating and preparations like candy.   A little more of this and a little more of that. What’s one more event to attend? Why not get a few more decorations, shop for a few more gifts, bake more cookies? There have been years that I felt too burned out to even enjoy the “big day” once all that was said and done.

This year I am trying to limit myself to the things that are most important so that I can truly enjoy the time with family! Part of that is placing limits on my business activities too.

That’s why I’m limiting the number of commissions that I will take for holiday gifts.

From now until Nov. 30th, I am only taking three commissions. If you want to commission an art gift for the holidays, please get in touch immediately so that we can nail it down before the 30th. Otherwise, it will have to be a sometime-in-the-new-year gift.

How will you place limits this holiday season?
