Why is it that humans need a guide book, such as “The Book of Virtues” to instruct us on how to behave?
This volume is a collection of short stories, poems and excerpts from literature that center around various virtues.
As I pondered the book and how I could create art from it, I began to question what it is about human nature that causes us to need such an instruction book.
I came to the conclusion that one of our innate qualities as human beings, that sets us apart from other animals, is the condition of free will. We have the ability to choose actions that are contrary to animal instinct. We can choose good, or evil. Is the ability to use free will the original sin that occurred in the Garden of Eden?
