Reflections, altered book art by Virginia Beach artist, Maggie Kerrigan

A presidential memoir seemed to be the perfect book for the word “Reflections.” Don’t read any politics into this. I wanted to carve the word Reflections with a mirror image of the word below. This would take a hefty book (plenty of pages) and this is what the Thrift Store had to offer that day.

I’d love to say there is a lot of deep meaning behind the making of this book–but there you have it. A word, a book that could support it, and the act of carving. It will be up to you to create your own deeper meaning here. Hopefully it resonates with you the way it did with the judge of the exhibition. It won second place.
